2015 marks the centenary of the death of Nurse Edith Cavell. Many events in Norfolk will take place mark the centenary.
St Stephen’s held an event this week to commemorate and pay tribute to Nurse Cavell by planting roses named after her in St Stephen’s church yard – these are the first to be planted in the centenary year and other plantings will follow. The Lord Mayor of Norwich, Cllr. Judith Lubbock and Simon Knighton, Chair of the Cavell NursesTrust were joined by members of the National Gardens Scheme and The Friends of Norwich in Bloom, Simon White from Peter Beales Roses, members of the Norwich Nurses League and St Stephen’s church.
Along with the planting of the roses a ‘Golden Rain Tree’ (Koelreuteria paniculata) was planted by George Ishmael and Sally Muir in memory of Victor Howe who was active in lovingly caring for our church yard over many years.
