Saltmine Presents: The Soul in the Machine
The Soul in the Machine is inspired by the story of YMCA founder George Williams and will be performed at St Stephen’s Church, Chapelfield, Norwich (NR2 1QP), from 7.30pm.
George Williams is a country boy who comes to the city of London in 1844 to find his place in the world and to make his mark. Appalled by the spirit-crushing rhythms of the worker’s life he fights to spread the light of God, and create a place where the soul can be nurtured.
George, who went on to found the YMCA, said: “We are more than bodies to be fed to a machine. We are made for more than work. We have souls, we have spirits and somewhere in this dead city there must be a place for those things.”
Suitable for age 12 and over, the production should last about two hours including interval.
YMCA Norfolk CEO, Tim Sweeting, said: “I am delighted that Saltmine are returning to Norfolk to tell the story of how YMCA started over 170 years ago. The issues faced back then have remarkable parallels with life today and the light that YMCA shone into these dark situations is also similar to the great work the charity currently does around our county.”
Tickets: adult standard £12.50 and concessions £9. They are available on 01603 617697 or at the café in St Stephen’s Church (cash only).
Burn At St Stephens
The Burn 24-7 is a movement of the bride of Christ returning back to her first love.
The mission statement of Burn Norwich is: to see the city of Norwich transformed, the church awakened, and a massive harvest of souls by way of unified day and night worship & prayer.
We seek to gather worshippers from across the region in extended periods of worship. It is not about pulling people away from their churches, rather about serving those churches by creating a space for people to worship God and to shift the heavens and atmosphere over the city! It is about coming together in unity in the Presence of God as we are transformed and filled up to go out in love – the Great Commandment into the Great Commission!
Burn is coming to St Stephens, Norwich at 14th July 2017 at 6pm – 11pm, entry is free.
