History of The Cafe

Picture of the old cafe
The Café was started 25 years ago to raise funds to send the then curate Pat Atkinson to India as part of a YMCA initiative (vidiyaltrust.com). Age Concern provided a grant to create a small kitchen at the back of church and the volunteer church members opened for shoppers on a Saturday morning. The Café (originally known as the Coffee Centre) moved to the glazed meeting room which could be heated in the winter so was much warmer. In 2007 the Coffee Centre opened daily from 10.00 am – 12.00 midday.
After major building work to mend a crack in the chancel the Coffee Centre closed, to be opened three years later with a brand new kitchen and using the main church which now had underfloor heating. In 2014 a manager was employed and the rest is, as they say history. The Café is now open from 10.00 am – 3.30 pm Monday to Saturday. In the summer of 2016, an average of 900 drinks were served often with a piece of homemade cake or light lunch each week. Our guide price enables us to give away around 60 drinks with food also in the week.

Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
